Information Architecture of Selected Digital Libraries Web Interface

(in English): This thesis is dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of applied information architecture of two selected digital libraries - Manuscriptorium and Kramerius of the National Digital Library. Information architecture is one of several interconnected web design disciplines. For designing purposes, information architecture can be defined as a complex of elements and principles. Analysis and evaluation of the existing information architecture depends on its integration into the web sites context. The thesis contains theoretical part with definition of information architecture, its elements and principles of design. It describes evaluation methods of information architecture as a combination of qualitative and quantitative elements of web sites. Information architecture of digital libraries often means architecture of the system. The thesis contains a definition of a digital library and explains focus on access application. Testing of web usability is the best way of testing the information architecture of digital libraries. It enables to test information architecture from user's point of view. The conclusion provide results of the usability tests.
The role of the Czech National Library in regional and world digitisation and its activities in digitalisation from ½ 90s of 20th century up to date

The bachelor thesis summarizes the history of activities of the National Library of the Czech Republic in digitization and its participation on international and national projects for digitization. This work does not just focus on these projects, but also on Albertina icome Ltd., and briefly describes the government programs of the Ministry of Culture VISK (Public Information Library Services), which are an integral part of the digitization of the National Library. The thesis also deals with the role of the National Library of the Czech Republic in European and global environment. The projects and the status of the National Library are briefly evaluated by the author of the thesis. Her opinions, drawn from the current situation of the project, are also presented. Furthermore, the author deals with the possible future development of digitization. The work's time range is set from the mid 1990's to the present. The Role of Institutions in Long-term Preservation of Digital Content

The thesis focuses on the long-term preservation of digital content or digital information, in particular with respect to memory institutions. Emphasize is given on the "frailty" of digital information on the one hand, and on the importance of its preservation for the future as part of the cultural heritage on the other hand. One of the thesis's aims is to show the high technical and organizational complexity of the preservation of digital documents and new demands for operation of memory institutions that result from such complexity. The thesis proceeds from the preliminary general notes on the issue of digitization via the description of specific problems and methods of digital archiving and the overview of planning and certification tools of trustworthy digital repositories to the summary of legislative conditions for digitization in the Czech Republic and European Union. The follow-up case study deals with the project of establishing the National Digital Library within the National Library of the Czech Republic.
